GREG GORMAN »It's Not About Me«
This extraordinary show is a unique opportunity for all collectors, art consultants and photography enthusiasts to see his acclaimed work close-up and personal in Munich, some of it on display for the very first time. IMMAGIS also offers the rare chance to meet one of the most renowned photographers of our time in person.
Gorman is famed for his stunning and memorable images. Over the past 50 years, the Los Angeles-based photographer has created a distinctive and impressive body of portrait photography.
Our exhibition is a collection of “outsiders” who have come to represent a global cultural phenomenon. Gorman’s portraits not only reflect the true essence of these individuals, but also provide a record of personalities who are influencing future generations. The works on display are a collection of images that are unique yet familiar. Gorman’s close connection with these figures is evident, as is his ability to recognize cultural titans of the future before being recognized as such.
His secret: mastering the light and focusing entirely on his subject. As the exhibition title suggests, it’s not about the photographer, although it is…
Born in 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri, Greg attended the University of Kansas with a major in photojournalism and completed his studies at the University of Southern California, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts degree in cinematography. Over the years, Greg has been acknowledged for his contribution to the world of photography, most recently being recognized by The Professional Photographers of America (Lifetime Achievement Award in Portraiture) as well as The Lucie Awards for Portraiture. His charitable work for such organizations as The Elton John Aids Foundation, The Oscar de La Hoya Foundation and Paws LA to name but a few has also been critically recognized.
His latest book It's not about me (published by teNeues) is available for purchase at the Gallery during the show.
