MAT HENNEK was born in Freiburg-Breisgau (Baden-Württemberg) in 1969. Mat worked in many different fields before beginning his artistic training at the European Academy of Fine Arts in Trier and at the Lette-Verein in Berlin.
In 1998, Mat Hennek founded the Kasskara agency in Berlin, which pushes the pictorial aesthetic of classical music to a radically new direction and has significantly shaped it since. Amongst others, Mat Hennek works for major record labels such as EMI, Sony, Universal Music Group, Deutsche Grammophon and Virgin Records. In another repertoire, artists such as David Byrne, Lizz Wright, Rammstein, Seeed, Sting, Tracy Chapman, Daniel Liebeskind and Alex Katz have also posed in front of his camera. Alongside, Mat Hennek has taken advertising photos for major brands such as Montblanc, Lufthansa, Rolex and Volkswagen, before moving the focus of his work to Fine Art photography in 2006.
Mat Hennek’s works have appeared in publications worldwide. His fine art photography has been featured in solo exhibits in Europe, Asia and North America. Mat Hennek lives with his partner, the French pianist Hélène Grimaud in New York.
